Architecture of the Pantheon

In 150 AD Roman architects build the Pantheon with an incredible dome of concrete, styled with an oculus - a hole - at the very top.  The oculus allows a beam of sunlight to illuminate the interior.  What were the secrets of light for Caesar Augustus?
