  • Private facility
    Madero # 61
    Col. Zapata
    Corregidora, Qro. Mexico

This facility is private but viewing of the cosmic room dial can be arranged by contacting Ruben Nohuitol at amigos@ruben.mx.

Description:
  • A projection (or, "negative") dial using the south-facing wall and floor of the "Cosmic Room" of a "casa de campo" private cottage. The tile roof over this room contains several skylights with slits for projecting a beam of sunlight onto the wall and one skylight with a small hole to project a dot of sunlight onto the room floor.

The wall is marked with inset ceramic tiles in an arc indicating time hours by the number of dots on the hour tiles; the dots and the bar for hour five are Mayan numbers. A vertical row of tiles forms the noon line with adjacent oval tiles identifying the date by the end of the projected sun line.

Additional oval tiles show minute marks at 15 minute intervals; the projected sun line terminates at these marks on the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. The single roof hole projects a spot of light onto the floor and depicts the analemma through the course of a year.

An additional roof aperture projects a spot of sunlight when the sun is near the zenith. This spot falls on the second-story floor but passes through a hole there and falls on the first-story floor when the sun is at the zenith.

The facility is located nearby the pyramid of "El Pueblito" and by extraordinary coincidence from the roof you see the sun set on the winter solstice exactly over this pyramid.
