  • This beautiful sundial is 4 feet (122cm) sundial and made from two layers of 1.25 inch (3.1cm) thick hardened marble. Arabic hour numbers from 6am to 6pm, letters, and gnomon are 1/4 inch (6.35mm) brushed gold anodized aluminum. The gnomon is shaped as a slanting "P" and to the south of the dial center, the name "Pellarin". The dial sits on a 3-foot (1m) black marble cube.

Silvio Laccetti, who dedicated the sundial, was a college friend of John V. Pellarin, the grandson of Vincenzo. "I knew his family had been in the terrazzo/mosaic trades, but it wasn't until 18 months ago that I learned just how important they were in bring the arts and artisans of terrazzo from Italy to the US. John V. died in 2019. After learning of the historical importance of his family, I decided through my foundation, to create a monument highlighting their achievements... Vincenzo's son settled in Union City and was a prominent medical doctor in the city. For several decades he served as physician to the Emerson High School athletics program. John V. later began a dental practice in Union City... [and] the Pellarin home was just one block away from Ellsworth Park. Union City accepted my proposal [for the sundial] immediately."
