Description: |
- This brass dial is a replica of the sundial installed at Mt. Vernon. It is about 12 inches in diameter with an offset eight point compass rose. The chapter ring has hour marks from 5am to 7pm in Arabic numerals. Hours are divided into quarter hours. Unfortunately the gnomon is broken off leaving only the lower third.
The base is a narrow white marble column. At the bottom is a wide, low dais with the engraved words by George Washington: "The Right of People to Establish Government Presupposes the Duty of Every Individual to Obey that Government"
The small plaque on the dais reads: "As Time Passes The Ideals Of Washington Reveal New Meanings. To Commemorate The Bicentennial Of The Birth Of George Washington. This Memorial Is Erected By The Ohio Daughters Of The American Revolution 1932 Replica Of Sun Dial At Mount Vernon."
