This working astrolabe is in the English tradition of Chaucer during the period 1326-1400 and will be constructed specifically for your latitude. The gold-colored Climate Plate is custom-printed for your latitude, inscribed in black with azimuth and altitude (almucantar) lines drawn every 10 degrees. Daylight hours are drawn in the tradition of medieval astrolabes showing temporal (unequal) hours of the day from sunrise to sunset. The gold-colored Rete contains pointers to 14 named stars observable in the night sky and the ecliptic, adjusted for the year 2020. The Climate Plate, Rete, and the Alidade pointer are held in a black Mater Plate that is 7 inches (180mm) across. The rim of the Mater is marked at 1° intervals with uniform hours from I to XII. Instructions and a history of the astrolabe are included.
