The mathematics of the Foster-Lambert Sundial was invented by Samuel Foster in 1654 and re-invented in 1777 by J.H. Lambert. This 3D printed dial is a modern implementation, 5 in (130mm) in diameter constructed of PLA red, white and blue filament.

This is one of a class of analemmatic azimuth sundials where the gnomon does not point to the North or South celestial pole. But the unique advantage of this dial is that the hour lines form a circle, each 15 degrees apart. By rotating the hour ring, it tells precise time by adjustment of the Equation of Time and Longitude Correction.
The North American Sundial Society 3D printed version of this dial uses an internal cam to correct for the Equation of Time and to move the gnomon on the Zodiac walkway. All of this contained in the dial plate less than the 1 inch (2..6 cm) in thickness. The sliding gnomon holds the shadow casting wire style of 3 in (7.6 cm). The date is set with a turn ring 5 in (130mm) in diameter.
It is shipped in a USPS Flat Rate Priority Box. At no additional cost your name will be embossed on the top of the dial. If the dial is a gift, let us know name and appropriate latitude & longitude.
